Being a young woman today is challenging, with pressures from friends, media, and influencers. Having an incarcerated parent intensifies these pressures. I donate to Girls Breaking Chains because they provide the support and positive reinforcement needed to become your best self. They listen, understand, and are there for you through it all because they have walked the walk.
I became aware of Girls Breaking Chains and was blown away by the founder's story and her commitment to turn her pain into purpose. Each year I try and identify a cause that lines up with my values and not just to do a one-time donation but make a commitment to give on a monthly basis. I encourage others to do the same. GBC is a game changer for these children with an incarcerated parent and I don't want to my giving to be a one and done either.
I appreciate that you checked in on me and not just the girls. It truly means a lot because people rarely inquire about how I am doing. Thank you all for everything you do for the girls.
I enjoyed my time as a volunteer for the GBC Christmas event. I love how Tynecia makes you feel like a part of the family and so welcoming to any support for the cause. I really enjoyed talking to some of the mentees and how much their experience with GBC has impacted their lives.
It's hard going to see my mom and then having to leave her. It's a lot! I'm glad that I have Girls Breaking Chains to help me deal with what I'm going through.
