GBC Mentoring Program Launch

#GirlsBreakingChains

We inspire all girls to believe in themselves, know that they have purpose and that they are fearfully and wonderfully made.

I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Psalm 139:14

Partner with us by donating to provide the resources needed to help young girls heal when a parent goes to prison.

Mission

Girls Breaking Chains is a Christian nonprofit organization devoted to supporting girls who are impacted by parental incarceration. We believe a “village of support” plays a critical role in breaking the cycle of emotional and psychological pain. Through mentorship, support group, and scholarships, we help young girls overcome the pain of being separated from a parent.

Vision

Girls Breaking Chains is transforming the lives of at-risk girls with incarcerated parents, to become resilient, healthy adults with purpose-driven lives.

Why GBC Is Needed

1 in 14 children in the US experiences parental incarceration. Over 2.7 million children have a parent in prison or jail. Children facing parental incarceration experience 3 times as many childhood adverse experiences. Having a loved one taken away from you is never anything short of traumatizing.

In the case of innocent, young minds fairly new to the world, the burden is even heavier. Girls Breaking Chains is a faith-driven nonprofit organization that reaches out to girls who bear the emotional weight of their parent’s incarceration.

Parental incarceration exposes any child or adolescent to the immense psychological and emotional strain of parent-child separation, economic challenges, academic decline, and the stigma that surrounds it. Feelings of abandonment, guilt, isolation, and unworthiness hold them back from embracing life in its full capacity.
